The Honor Guard is consist of members
of Kettering American Legion Post 598, Miamisburg American
Legion Post 165
& West Carrollton VFW Post 3438 (also commonly known as
the "River Rats"). The Honor Guard was formed before 1986 according to
Carl Brooks who said it was established before he joined.
Sometime in 2002 the
Kettering American Legion Post combined the Honor
Guard with the other two post's Honor Guards to form
today's Honor Guard.
Our Honor Guard proudly performs all types of services.
Providing Funeral Detail, members are certified by the
Department of Defense to provide the Final Salute to our
departed veterans. Our members also provide "Flag Dedications"
for local establishments, teach "Flag Etiquette" in the local
schools, and perform the 'Presentation of the Colors' at
School functions and in parades. The Honor Guard has three
vehicles to transport members to these events.
If you would like to use the services of the Honor Guard for a
Veteran's funeral the following is required:
A copy of
the Veteran's DD-214 or discharge papers
Contact the
funeral director and give them a copy of the DD-214
Tip for Post 598 members:
make sure the Adjutant Officer has a copy of your DD-214 in
the Post records, it will make it easier to find after you
pass away
